WASHINGTON – Tonight, Robert C. White, Jr., was appointed by the D.C. Democratic State Committee to fill the At-Large seat on the Council of the District of Columbia vacated by Vincent Orange on August 15. The appointment was secured through a roll call vote by members of the committee in a special meeting held at Catholic University’s Gowan Hall.

Mr. White will be sworn in at the John A. Wilson Building tomorrow morning at 9:00 am, with a public office open house to follow immediately in Suite 107.

Mr. White became the Democratic Nominee for D.C. Council At-Large with a victory in the primary held on June 14. As he continues to campaign for the General Election on November 8, Mr. White remains focused on a platform that prioritizes quality education, affordable housing, and workforce development for District residents. He has pledged to be an independent voice on the Council, working to bridge divides across the District of Columbia.

“I look forward to bringing immediate and transparent representation to the Council for the final months of the 2016 Council period,” said Mr. White following the appointment. “I’m very humbled to have the full support of the Democratic State Committee.”

Over the remainder of the legislative session, Mr. White will work with colleagues to pass robust legislation to address paid family leave in the District of Columbia, and work with his team to develop a strong legislative package for the 2017 calendar year should he be selected by voters for a full term on November 8.
